Governor Rendell’s Seven Tax Package
Under the governor’s proposal, Pennsylvania families will see the state sales tax increase from 6 to 7% on the products they buy on a daily basis.
Electricity consumers across the Commonwealth would see a new electricity usage tax to support $850 million in increased borrowing.
Pennsylvania residents would see an increase in the tipping fee of $2.75 per ton for their trash removal.
Governor Rendell has proposed raising the tax on cigarettes by 10 cents to $1.45 per pack.
He also plans to institute a tax on cigars and smokeless tobacco. This new tax would be 36 cents per ounce.
Also proposed is a 6.17% oil tax on heating oil, fuel oil and gasoline.
Finally, Governor Rendell has urged a 3%-3.5% tax on businesses that do not offer insurance benefits to every single employee to pay for government-run health care.
Governor Rendell’s $2.3 billion tax increase plan is an unfair and unjustified strain on Pennsylvania’s families and seniors.
