It's been a while since I've posted a review. I guess it's time I do so, and do so with one of my newest go-to smokes.
I enjoy Pepin Garcia's stuff. But, I often find that each of his blends is very similar in flavor. Medium to full with a smooth, earthy core and a nice, slightly sweet twang left on the palate.
The Black Label is different because it's very heavy on spice. The cigar opens with a strong, peppery backbone that coats the palate and lingers long through the nose. There is an underlying earthiness there, but it's very subtle and masked by a more prominent richness. After an inch or so the spice mellows considerably, which gives way to a pleasant woodiness. This woodiness is toasty, and has a sweet, cedary influence. It is noticeable throughout the remainder of the smoke. The strength builds during the burn, hitting the full-bodied mark at the cigar's completion. I can easily say this is Pepin's strongest smoke to date, as well as his most complex blend.
I really do like this cigar. It's very different than Pepin's other blends. The only cigar that comes close in terms of strength and flavor (that I have found) is the yellow label Legend from Cigars International. However, the Black Label is stronger.
