I smoked the Cohiba Black the other day and I have to say I wasn't all that impressed. My cigar could have been a fluke, but it didn't burn well and tasted muggy. I HAve another one resting for a while in the humidor. Being a fan of the XV's on ocassion, I thought this would have been better. Especially being made with Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper, The binder is a sun-grown Dominican Piloto Cubano and the filler is a blend of hand selected tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and Mexico. The cigar I smoked wasn't anything out of the ordinary.....especially for a cigar that ranges from 10.50 - 16.50 a stick!
I'll smoke another one and give another report.......hopefully it'll be better than the first. The Cohiba Black is just one of General cigars releases this year. Sometimes I think companies push way too many new cigars in every year that they sacrifice quality.
I did smoke the new 2000 Vintage Macanudo and I have to say I enjoyed it, it reminded me of the macanudos I used to smoke in the early 90's when they were still using Jamaican tobacco...other than that, nothing stood out, not even the Partagas 160, which was a good smoke, but not for the money.....
One thing I am anxious to try is the LGC Figurado maduros. I like the natural lines, so hopefully this cigar will be a good smoke.
